About Us
The
SCI Special Fund was started by Rogers A. Severson
in 1987. Mr. Severson suffered a spinal cord
injury in 1986 and became aware of the numerous
needs of people with spinal cord injuries that
were not being addressed. In many cases this
was the result of either no insurance or expiration
of insurance coverage.
The
SCI Special Fund will evaluate the person's
needs, ability to pay and his or her potential
to improve. If justified, we will provide funding
for therapy, equipment or any number of things
that might enable greater independence.
The
SCI Special Fund obtains all of its funds through
charitable donations under its non-profit status.

The
SCI Special Funds emphasizes helping people
in need as opposed to programs. We have personal
contact with everyone we help and have typically
been able to pass along 90% of the money we
raise directly to the cause.
The
SCI Special Fund encourages co-funding. For
example, if a person's family or friends can
raise a portion of the money needed, the SCI
Special Fund will consider paying the balance
so the need can be met.
